IBD may raise odds of dementia
Individuals with inflammatory bowel disease had a 4.1% increased incidence of dementia, and were diagnosed with dementia more than seven years earlier compared with patients who didn’t have IBD. Those with IBD also had the greatest risk of developing Alzheimer’s dementia and vascular dementia. The findings also showed that increased IBD severity and duration correlated with a higher likelihood of dementia.
